Lu Shanchuan was born in 1969 in Fujian. He graduated from the department of Fine Art at the Fujian Normal University in 1992 and completed his postgraduate studies at the Central Academy of Fine Art in 1997. He taught at the Fujian Normal University from 1992 to 2009, and went to Germany on the Sino-German Cultural Exchange Scholarship for further studies in 2005. He currently lives and works in Beijing.
Lu Shanchuan’s painting features politics, economy, culture, military affairs which both affect China and international field. On one hand, his works implies that China is now in a globalization era and focuses on great events. For Lu Shanchuan, the most important is the events’ content. He uses newspaper as a starting point. Whenever he finds a latest important event in the newspaper, he starts his painting, emphasizing each scene in his works by magnifying images from newspaper on his canvas. Lu Shanchuan’s uses the media of newspaper as an art to record how media enters into art.
He has held solo exhibitions and participated in group shows throughout China, Asia, Europe and the USA.
