Xu Zhen was born in Shanghai in 1977. He graduated from Shanghai Art and Crafts Institute in 1966. Xu Zhen is a leading figure among the young generation of Chinese artists. His body of work, which includes photography, installation art and video is informed by performance and conceptual art. In 2001 and become director of Art Director of BizArt Center and founded ‘MadeIn Company’ in 2013, that launched the brand “Xu Zhen,” expanding into curatorial production, research and publications with an accent on contemporary culture development and communication.  

Xu Zhen was awarded the Artnet Awards, Artist of the Year in 2016, Best Young Artist of the Year, ACC Award, 2014 and Best Artist, Contemporary Chinese Art Award in 2004. His work has been collected by many institutions and private collections worldwide including the Fondation Loui Vuitton, Paris, the Centre Pompidou, the Daimler Collection (Berlin, Germany), the Musee d’Art Contemporan de Lyon; the KLL Collection, Shanghai, the DSL Collection, Paris; Hammer Contemporary Collection, Los Angeles, CA; Tate Modern, London, UK; Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, NSW, Australia; Tiroche Deleon Collection, Jaffa, Israel; Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, Australia; UBS Art Collection, Zurich, Switzerland; Uli Sigg Collection, Switzerland; M+ Museum, Hong Kong and Guy & Myriam Ullens Foundation, Switzerland. 

Xu Zhen has exhibited internationally at Biennales/Triennales: Venice Biennale (2001, 2005), Lyon Biennial (2013), Asia Pacific Triennial (2012) and Guangzhou Triennial (2012).
