Lu Shanchuan was born in 1969 in Fujian. He graduated from the department of Fine Art at the Fujian Normal University in 1992, and completed his postgraduate studies at the Central Academy of Fine Art in 1997. He taught at the Fujian Normal University from 1992 to 2009, and went to Germany on the Sino-German Cultural Exchange Scholarship for further studies in 2005. He currently lives and works in Beijing.

Lu Shanchuan’s painting deals with politics, economy, culture and military affairs – both in China and globally. He makes use of newspaper photographs as a starting point, magnifying and transforming the content of the image as he re-works and redefines it in oils on canvas. He has held solo exhibitions and participated in group shows around the world. In China, he has participated in the 4th Chengdu Biennale (2009); the 8th Shanghai Biennale (2010); and at the Today Art Museum in Beijing (2011).
