Qin Jun was born in 1987 in Liaoning Province. In 2010 he graduated from the department of sculpture of Dalian Polytechnic University. He then completed a master’s degree at the department of fine arts of Southampton University in the UK. He currently lives and works in Beijing.
In all his sculpture and painting, Qin adheres to a rigid and predetermined geometric scheme. The sculptures are made up of basic forms such as squares, circles and triangles, with modular surface features. They are joined using a standard assembly method – an approach that is of course strongly reminiscent of modern mass-production methods.
Qin Jun’s work features in the Zheng Guan Art Museum, the Frank Yang Collection and the Haha Museum of Art in China. Solo exhibitions in museums and galleries include Qin Jun at White Space in Beijing (2015); The End of World, at the Winchester School of Art, UK (2012); Technical Romance, Winchester School of Art, UK (2011).
His group exhibitions include A White Space Odyssey, at White Space, Beijing (2019); Referencing Alexander Calder: A Dialogue in Contemporary Chinese Art, Klein Sun Gallery, New York (2017); Gengons – Structure Dimension of New Abstraction, The Emerging Arts Research Centre, Beijing (2015); and New Generation of Abstract Art, Si Shang Art Museum, Beijing (2014).
