Wang Yuyang was born in 1979 in Harbin, in the Heilongjiang province. He graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts with an MA in 2008. He lives and works in Beijing and since in 2008 has taught at the Experimental Art department of the Central Academy.
Wang Yuyang explores and questions the experience of technology, our interactions with the digital and the robotic and how technology affects and challenges our perception of everyday life. He is interested in destructive” aesthetics and material waste to explore and reflect upon the relationship between the human body, experience and cognition. In 2006 Wang Yuyang began to use mundane objects or outdated technology such as a TV set, an old-fashioned handheld telephone, an ATM cashier or an automobile, resembling organisms inhaling and exhaling.
In 2015, Tonight I shall meditate on that which I am, a major exhibition of sculptures, installations, paintings and
performances by the artist, was organized by the New York based curator Zhang Ga at the Long Museum, West Bund, Shanghai. This was followed by a monograph on Wang Yuyang’s work, published by Flash Art International, 2016.

In 2018 he participated in the 6th Guangzhou Triennial, Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou; Device_art 6.018, Kontejner, Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb (2018) and Singularity, a solo exhibition at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku (2018).
